Changes in professions and the requirement for further training against the background of digital transformation
Abstract
"Digitalisation and automization of the economy are progressing constantly. In particular, the interconnection of IT and business processes (Industry 4.0) is opening up more and more new applications and sales opportunities for enterprises. At the same time, the use of such 4.0 technologies is leading to changes in the world of work, in which machines and software algorithms play an ever stronger role (World of work 4.0). The aim of the study is, on the one hand, to achieve an overall picture of the status of automatization and digitalisation at German establishments, both in the production as well as in the administrative and service area, and to examine in a descriptive way the changed working processes and work content in establishments in the wake of the 4th industrial revolution. In what way, for instance, are tasks themselves and the demands placed on competence and qualifications changing in the course of Industry 4.0? On the other hand, the study analyses company apprenticeships and further company training activities against the background of this technical change: How are apprenticeships and further training carried out at German establishments during the present time? What role does digital change play? The results of this study are intended to provide information on whether and how establishments are adapting their apprenticeships and further training measures to technical change and are providing their employees with the necessary skills that they require if they are to continue to be employed in the company."
