Entrepreneurial activities in an ageing society : The potential of women and seniors

Abstract

"The ageing of the German society cannot be halted, but the average age of new firm founders does not rise alike. Given the already low level of entrepreneurial activities in Germany, this poses a problem for the formation of start-ups in the future. Moreover, the anticipated lack of founders might lead to a lower level of the economy's innovativeness since new firms are comparatively more often inventive than incumbent firms. Thus, the still significantly lower levels of women-entrepreneurs and senior-entrepreneurs could offer a way to bridge this gap in future." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
