Ensuring the availability of qualified staff 2015 : figures, data, facts

Abstract

"The positive development of the economy in Germany is expressed in a large demand for workers and is leading to a rise in the number of persons in employment. This positive development is also continuing on the labour market in Hessen. There is still a constant demand for workers in Hessen. This can been seen from the continually rising number of positions that can be filled immediately. Since the beginning of 2015, the number of positions newly filled have been clearly above the level for 2014. At 5.4 (July 2015), the unemployment rate showed an improvement of 0.4 percentage points vis-à-vis the year before. Employment subject to social security contributions amounted to 2,399,000 in May 2015, a rise of 1.9 per cent against the previous year and marginally better than the federal growth rate (+1.7 %). Demand for new staff, both men and women, is also on an upwards trend. At 21 per cent, the stock of registered positions (44,030; July 2015) lay distinctly above the level of the year before, in the same way as the monthly entry of available jobs. All in all, the early indicators for 2015 (for instance, the influx of registered positions; entries into unemployment benefit receipt) suggest that the developments will continue to be good. Despite this, some areas are already today showing bottlenecks in filling positions, a fact that can be demonstrably measured through the disparity between the number of applicants and the number of available positions as well as increasing vacancy times (for example, IT and scientific, manufacturing and medical professions).<br> According to the forecast platform regio pro, a deficit of roughly 134,000 qualified staff is expected in Hessen in 2020. In terms of occupational qualifications, there will then be a lack of 90,000 qualified staff with an occupational training, as well as 44,000 academics." (Text excerpt, IAB-Doku)
