Refugee migration to Germany: a provisional balance
Abstract
Against the background of the strong drop in refugee figures, the IAB is assuming that there will have been a reduction in the immigration of refugees in the current year of roughly two-thirds when compared to the previous year. "As long as the political framework conditions do not change, 300,000 to 400,000 refugees will probably have immigrated in 2016. This assessment proceeds however from the proviso that the Agreement with Turkey and the closing of the Balkan route continue to apply", the IAB labour market researcher Herbert Brücker stated on Friday. In 2015, 1.1 million refugees were registered. Taking double counts, onward and return journeys into account, the IAB estimates that there was a net immigration of 900,000 refugees in 2015. (IAB)
