In-house occupational training and further training in Germany

Abstract

"The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) and the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) - and here in particular the Research Department 'Establishments and Employment' - have been working together successfully since 1995 within the framework of the reporting on the annual occupational training report BMBF on enterprise-level training. This reporting on the basis of the IAB Establishment Panel has been subject to various changes over the course of time which have manifested themselves, for instance, in the inclusion of new indicators or in the way in which data is represented over time.
Since the Data Report of 2009 (using data from the Establishment Panel 2007), data have been prepared and presented in the form of time-series. To do this, a series of indicators was developed which were as a rule evaluated for the period starting in 2000 and extending to the current endpoint. The current report also takes this date as a starting point and updates the parameters, which had already been the subject of the past reports, to the current endpoint. The last report was issued in 2013 (with the data from 2012). With this, the current expert report complements the results presented there by adding the years 2013 und 2014 and renders it possible to make assertions on current developments.
The indicators presented refer both to apprenticeships and to further in-company training. With that, the report allows for a comprehensive representation of trends in training activities at establishments - activities that are becoming more important in the context of demographic change and the necessity to ensure the availability of qualified staff."
