Entitlement to training, training activities, and the way establishments take on persons after training
Abstract
"Since 1995, the way establishments conduct training is the central aspect of the cooperation carried out between the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) and the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) and here, in particular, the Research Department 'Establishments and Employment'. Here the in-house training activities are analysed using indicators which have been jointly compiled. By using data from the IAB Establishment Panel, assertions can be made about how many establishments in Germany fulfil the legal requirements for offering occupational training, in other words, how many are entitled to carry out training; how high the share of establishments which actually carry out training is; and how many persons completing training are actually then given an employment contract by the establishment which has trained them. The basis of the results presented here is an expert study by the IAB which discusses not only these indicators but also further key issues of training and further training at German establishments. The results are shown separately below according to regions (eastern/western Germany) and size of establishment; the expert study additionally provides data relating separately to various branches of the economy."
