Young rehabilitants at the transition from vocational training to the labour market

Abstract

"The study answers the questions, whether and to what extent employment integration is obtained by young rehabilitants completing vocational training provided for by the Federal Employment Agency. To identify important factors for the entry in and the sustainability of first employment periods and to account for (job searching) time in this context, event history analyses are applied. One fourth of the analysis sample finds employment liable to social security contributions directly alter the completion of vocational training. In total, 2/3 of them obtain employment over the whole observation period. A successful entry into employment is influenced by characteristics similar to those inducing the labour market transition of young adults in general: higher educational achievements, a successfully completed apprenticeship at best within a company, regional mobility and good structural labour market conditions enhance the probability of rapid labour market Integration. In terms of employment sustainability, physically disabled graduates and people experiencing less unemployment and sickness spells retain employment longer than people with other disabilities and longer unemployment and sickness spells."
