The significance of education and learning of the language for the labour market integration of asylum seekers
Abstract
"Little is known about the integration of asylum seekers into vocational training and employment because there is a lack of data for Germany. In the new migration sample of the IAB-SOEP (Socioeconomic Panel), among others, persons are interviewed who have come to Germany as asylum seekers and who have been successful in staying here. The paper asks what characteristics this group of persons have and which factors have been favourable to their integration into the German labour market. Prior studies showed that investments in education and language learning are essential prerequisites for this. Similarly, the extent to which these investments are related to the educational level of the persons seeking asylum is examined." (Author's abstract)
