Over bridges and planks : IAB study on temporary agency work

Abstract

"By engaging in temporary agency work, unemployed persons improve their chances of finding employment later on in the regular employment market. But how substantial is this so-called bridging effect? A study conducted by the Institute for Employment Research - in which labour market status before and after temporary agency work was examined - offers initial insights. It becomes apparent that for former unemployed persons, temporary agency work represents more of a narrow plank towards employment outside the branch rather than a wide bridge."
