Berufliche Lohnunterschiede
Abstract
"According to human capital theory, people who invest a specific amount of time and money in education and training should receive a fairly identical level of wages in return. Therefore, the wages of workers who have completed a three-year course of vocational training in the German so-called 'dual system' should be fairly equal. Descriptive analyses show, however, that average wages in different occupations differ up to 100 percent after finishing the training. In a multivariate analysis (using a regression with restrictions) with the IAB Employment Sample (IABS) we control for the heterogeneity of individual workers and still find large occupational wage differentials of up to over 50 percent. Specific theoretical approaches can be used to explain these differentials, e.g. approaches of labour market segmentation which could be extended by institutional aspects."
