Transitions between education and labour market in Germany
Abstract
"In Germany the Institute for Employment Research developed the Educational Accounting System to give a comprehensive survey of the stocks and flows of people in education and training, in employment, unemployment, and household activities. The flows between the stocks are represented by transition matrices. These data are used for analyses concerning the relationship between the labour market and the educational system. To estimate the transition matrices a new method based on entropy optimization was developed. The ENTROP algorithm computes tables which are most similar to given reference tables and satisfy a prescribed set of linear inequality and equality constraints. It generalizes the well known Iterative Proportional Fitting Algorithm (used in log-linear models) and the RAS method (used in input-ouput analysis)." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
