Mitigating the stress of gender recomposition
Abstract
"In this chapter, we first review briefly our basic findings that show what happens, both to orchestras and to individual players, as women enter this previously male-exclusive institution. Then we turn to the question that is of primary interest here. What factors exacerbate and mitigate the strains on relationships among members that inevitably appear when fundamental compositional changes are made in an orchestra? The chapter ends with an analysis of the extent to which recomposition dynamics differ across types of institutions." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
