On reduction of social reproduction

Abstract

"The main research question under investigation is: What is the effect of the occupation of the father on the occupation of the son with respect to similarities and differences between Hungary and the Netherlands. Focus will also be given to the influence of the education level attained.<br> The analysis presented ... is part of a larger project, in which the Institute for Social Sciences in Budapest (Hungary) and the Institute of Soziology at the University of Groningen (The Netherlands) are both involved. The paper begins with a short description of the background to the study and the research questions. Then follows the relationship between father's and son's occupation and the contribution of education. We then test wether the relationships are constant over time and wether one may apply the same model to the two countries. The paper concludes with an estimate of the strength of the relationships between occupation of father and son and the educational level." (Author's abstract) ((en))
