Differences in school performances between the German States

Abstract

"School performances have been regularly recorded and compared from German State to State within the framework of national educational monitoring since 2006. The current study yields very differing results for the individual German states. What is shown is that social and ethnic characteristics are central determinants of educational success. The authors have ascertained that the results achieved by the various states depend above all on non-school framework conditions and not on differences in quality between schools. Recommendations for action must take this into account." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku)
