Expenditure on labour market policy by type of action : Austria and Germany compared. Final report

Abstract

"Labour market policy comprises different types of interventions, basically services (like the provision of information), measures to activate the unemployed and financial support (e.g., to support unemployed during job search). On the basis of the labour market policy database of Eurostat, which differentiates between nine categories of interventions, we compare the structure of expenditure on labour market policy between Austria and Germany. Austria spends relatively more on training (category 2), out-of-work income maintenance and support (category 8) and early retirement (category 9) and less on services (category 1), employment incentives (category 4) and start-up incentives (category 7).
