Entrepreneurial challenges at the beginning of the demographic slump

Abstract

"In some branches, the lack of qualified workers can already be felt. In the medium term, though, the demographic development will demand new strategies in all branches of the economy. In this publication, the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) and the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) summarise the results of their own studies and surveys. The goal is to take stock of the current situation on the labour market as a basis for the development of strategies to combat the future lack of qualified labour. The projections by the two research institutes show how, in the long run, the bottlenecks will spread out over larger regional areas and to other professions and branches. Here two studies form the cross-sectional and longitudinal basis: the IAB Establishment Panel and the BIBB Qualifications Panel. Further quantitative studies analyse recruitment strategies in selected branches." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku)
