Regional mobility of trainees in Saxony : the delayed results of the birth kink after the Turnaround
Abstract
"The situation for those seeking training or for establishments offering training has changed, and not only in Saxony. While in earlier years the number of persons applying for training often exceeded the number of training positions to a considerable extent, nowadays people are complaining more and more often about a lack of trainees. On the one hand, this article recapitulates the reasons for this shift and, on the other, illuminates what effect this has on the mobility behaviour of trainees living in Saxony. The temporal comparison of commuter quotas, distances and destinations shows that apprentices living in Saxony are reacting to the - primarily demographically determined - alleviation of tension on the training market with a reduced tendency to be mobile."
