Study "From school to work" : Project info 1: occupational orientation at the beginning of final year
Abstract
"With the transition from a school of general education to occupational training, important points are set for a successful professional life. Two important prerequisites for success are that young people have an occupational orientation at their disposal and plan their training path. In the course of the final year, school students then decide in favour of either a training under the dual education system (das duale System) or at a vocational college, or their path leads them to a secondary school, to preparation for an occupation or directly into the labour market. <br> In order to find out more about the occupational orientation and plans of school students in the final year of lower secondary and middle schools (Hauptschulen/Realschulen), the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) carried out the study 'From school to work'. In the first weeks of the school year 2011/12, school students in the classes of the final year of the lower secondary schools in Nuremberg and the municipal middle schools were asked to answer questions in writing in class. Here, among others, the following questions were in the foreground: Did the young people have plans with regard to their future profession and the occupation they wished to take up? What had they planned for the period after the end of their general education at school? The following report presents initial evaluations." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku)
