Occupations and qualifications in the future
Abstract
"New projections of labour requirements and labour supply that the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) and the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) have compiled within the framework of a joint project with the Gesellschaft für Wirtschaftliche Strukturforschung, Osnabrück (GWS) and the Fraunhofer Institut für Angewandte Informationstechnologie, St. Augustin (FIT) (www.qube-projekt.de) offer for the first time a differentiated depiction both according to levels of qualifications as well as occupational fields. To do this, isolated individual projects were set up for both sides of the market; that is, for both sides of the market, the trends of the past were continued - independently of the specific developments of the other side of the market. By comparing the individual projects (balancing out), those labour market segments could be identified in which - if behaviour remained unchanged - shortages or a surplus of labour would ensue; in other words, where adjustments would be necessary. On no account, however, must these model calculations be interpreted as a projection for the labour market in 2025." (Text excerpt, IAB-Doku)
