Women's participation in activation programs in Germany : what is the influence of family status?

Abstract

"There is a great variety of support possibilities with which to improve the integration chances of men and women out of work and receiving means-tested employment benefit (ALG II). These include brief employment opportunities; institutional and in-house training measures; subsidized further occupational training; entry wages; as well as the integration subsidy. Here women are to be supported at the very least in accordance with their share in the unemployed as well as the relative degree to which they are affected by unemployment (Section 16, Sub-section 1, sentence 4 of Book II of the Social Code (SGB II), see the description in Weinkopf et al. (2009), p. 9). This is intended to contribute to counteracting the disadvantages that women face on the labour market. Are these equality opportunities a reality? Does the family background of the women play a role here? These are the questions this article addresses." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku)
