Demografic change and the activation of potentials on the labour market in Hessen

Abstract

"Democratic change in Hessen will lead to a clear drop in the population of persons of an age capable of working. For this reason, and because of the expected high demand for qualified labour, there is expected to be a shortage, especially of qualified workers. In order to cushion the negative effects of demographic change on the labour market, strategies that increase participation in employment, especially that of women, would be promising. Along with this, labour market-orientated immigration could help to cushion demographic developments." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku)
