Employment forecasting in Germany - demand for labour

Abstract

The author provides an overview of the historical development of labour market forecasts at the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) and describes the methodology of the IAB/INFORGE model (INterindustry FORecasting GErmany). This is followed by a description of the forecast changes in the demand for labour according to branch of the economy, occupations, and qualifications up to the year 2025. What is also described is how the model can be used for occupational forecasts at the regional level. Finally, the author formulates six recommendations for the establishment of a forecast system in Poland. (IAB)
