Mobility between occupations in Germany : a network analysis

Abstract

"The dual education system is more flexible than people think. After all, three years later, a third of the persons completing the training are no longer in the occupation they had learned. On the other hand, however, occupational stability varies greatly, depending on the training occupation chosen. From the perspective of ideal typical professions, 13 groups can be identified within which the bulk of the occupational transitions take place. This may prove to be a useful instrument for career advisors who wish to point out realistic alternatives for those potentially thinking about changing their profession."
