Benefit recipients' motivation to work and their willingness to make concessions

Abstract

"In public debate, the willingness to work of the long-term unemployed receiving transfer payments is frequently called into question. IAB examines their motivation to work and their willingness to make concessions within the context of Unemployment Benefit II receipt.<br> This brief report seeks to answer two central questions: How many benefit recipients are engaged in activities that are generally perceived as useful, such as child-rearing, taking care of family members, education or employment? How motivated is this group of people to end their receipt of benefits by taking up employment?" (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
