Trends in skilled workers on the labour market
Abstract
"Technical and organisational change as well as the globalisation of markets has led to an increase in the relevance of knowledge-based activities in Germany as well as in the other highly developed industrial countries. On the labour market, this has become apparent particularly in the unequal employment opportunities of persons with differing qualifications: while the share of employees for qualified activities requiring a completed vocational training or a (specialized) university degree has risen since the 1990s, the proportion of employees in simple jobs has dropped. This situation is mirrored in the risk of becoming or being unemployed: persons without a vocational training certificate are out of work distinctly more often than persons who have completed vocational training or have studied."
