The Future Looks Old: Demographic Change and Generation Management : An Interview with Stefan Boehme and Prof. Dr. Ernst Kistler

Abstract

"Observing the demographic development of the past and its continuation in the future, it is revealed very clearly that the German people are ageing steadily and the number of children is declining continuously. While in 2005, the mean age was 41 years, it is going to rise to 51 years in 2030. In companies, the mean age is currently 43 years; in 2030 it is predicted to be 53 years. This development has far-reaching consequences for financial, educational, social, and migration policy of the Federal Republic, federal states and municipalities, but also for product, capital, real estate, and service markets. Furthermore, it creates new challenges for companies and the labour market. 'Arbeitsmarkt Netzwerk' (labour market network) talked to Stefan Boehme, member of the regional research network of the Institute for Employment Research of the Federal Employment Agency (IAB), and Prof. Dr. Ernst Kistler, the director of the International Institute for Empirical Social Economy (INIFES), founded in 1975 in Stadtbergen/Leitershofen near Augsburg."
