Re-Regulation of ┐Jobcenters┐ for Recipients of Hartz IV Benefits

Abstract

"According to a verdict of the German Supreme Court in December 2007, a re-regulation of 'Jobcenters' (local employment agencies) for recipients of 'Hartz IV' transfers is due in 2010. There is dire need for political action to make sure that service and assistance to the 6.5 m. recipients do not worsen. For two years, politicians have been struggling over a consensual solution conforming to the constitution. The current coalition agreement envisions the liquidation of the 'ARGE-Jobcenters'. What makes re-regulation in Germany so difficult? How do other countries regulate the nexus of labour market and social policy?" (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku)
