A Shady Sphere of Employment: the Third Sector as an Area of Labour Market Policy Experimentation
Abstract
The article investigates in how far the quality of employment relations in the third (non-profit) sector changes, given this sector's current social condition of an enforced 'economisation'. The analyses show that atypical employment relations such as part-time jobs and temporary employment increasingly dominate the third sector. In East Germany, 16 per cent of the employed in the third sector work in occasional "One-Euro Jobs". There is reason to fear a further deterioration of employment relations and the development towards a low wage sector. (IAB)
