Subsidized employment during the economic crisis: just a little bit more?

Abstract

"The profound economic crisis is quite likely to cause a remarkable rise in unemployment in Germany. Unless there is a strong economic upturn, greater emphasis will be placed on ensuring an adequate labour market policy response that focuses on the unemployed. Job-creation schemes and wage subsidies might be important elements of this response. In recent years, many studies have analysed their labour market and other impacts in Germany. This paper describes the schemes and their objectives, discusses the main results of evaluation studies and provides suggestions for a policy response during the crisis."
