The human factor: On the discussion about life-long learning and the demand for skilled labour
Abstract
"The current article is aimed at providing a closer look at the said aspects - requirements of employment and/or skilled labour as well as training and further training - and to find answers to the following questions: Are establishments currently being confronted with recruitment difficulties? Which areas are experiencing particular bottlenecks? What are establishments doing to address these shortages? And in particular: Are they engaging in training and further training? This paper is structured as follows: Chapter 2 begins by presenting some findings on the way employment is developing and its structure in order to gain an overview of the present and past situations on the labour market. Chapter 3 is then devoted to the search for workers/skilled workers by individual establishments and any difficulties which might be linked to this. Chapter 4 examines the efforts of the establishments in the field of training and further training. The main source of data for the following results is the IAB Establishment Panel."
