Endless Work? Employment Perspectives in an Ageing Society

Abstract

The article sheds light on the labour market for the elderly and starts with the age-specific development of employment and unemployment until today. Based on existing projections, the long-term perspectives for elderly employees are dealt with next. Eventually, the focus is on discussing the determinants of elderly people's employment and on options to improve their chances in the labour market. Central issues here are the possibilities and limitations of institutional reforms, above all in the realms of labour and social legislation and social policy.
