Firm-Specific Employment Patterns of Elderly Female Employees in Germany
Abstract
"The influence of demographic change on the structures of the labour market has been discussed for years. In this discussion, it is often demanded for an increase in the employment of elders. Therein, elderly employees are usually regarded as a whole and irrespective of gender. This undifferentiated perspective disregards the distinctions of female - that is, often discontinuous - employment histories. Breaches in the work history that still mostly occur in women's work life, and especially the often smaller amount of life working time, can effect on pension eligibility. In this context, it appears advisable to consider the structures of the late stages of women's employment - here, regarding firm-specific determinants. This article provides, apart from some basic statistic information on the situation of employees aged 50 and over, an analysis of selected firm-specific characteristics regarding their significance for the employment of elderly women. Intended to provide a comprising picture of the current situation, the article is descriptive in character." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku)
