Churning in the context of human resource policies : recent developments in employment systems
Abstract
"The study analyses the development and determinants of churning as a measure of the 'openness' of employment systems. Churning measures the part of worker turnover which is neutral to changes of the absolute number of employees in a firm. The descriptive analysis of the development of churning between 1993 and 2010 indicates to what extent a growth in 'open' employment systems can be observed. Against the background of different challenges for human resource policies I analyze the determinants of churning using linear regression models. Finally, I analyze whether there is a link between churning and employment growth in firms using fixed-effects panel models. The empirical analysis is based on the IAB Establishment Panel 1997 to 2010. Results show that churning has decreased in recent years. Furthermore, there is no link between churning and employment growth in German firms." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
