On the Relation of Cluster Theory and Practise
Abstract
"This essay addresses the fact that cluster research lacks crucial insights in the realm of cluster policy. This is a crucial, if not the only aspect favouring the disassociation of research and policy and practise. Such a development should hardly be expected to yield any advantages; on the contrary, various disadvantages are clearly revealed. For example, it should be expected that the progressing disassociation of both realms complicates, if not altogether blocks a continued dialogue that would bear the chance of considerable learning effects on either side. To correct this unfavourable development, a more intense scientific discussion of cluster policy and practise is needed. The article at hand is intended to contribute to such a discussion, using a 2008 survey of cluster and network managers in Germany, the findings of which give a profound insight to the authors' cluster conception."
