Salaries of women and men: An imbalance

Abstract

"Women earn less money in Germany than men. At first sight that isn't surprising because women often choose professions that are not highly paid. For instance, a young pre-school teacher has a lower income than a construction engineer who has been to university. What is telling is the comparison between the sexes when profession, qualifications, age and place of work are taken into account. Does a similarly good education catapult women up the wage scale or does the imbalance remain?" (Authors' abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
