Introduction to methods of empirical labour market research

Abstract

"In the second chapter, the author describes the practice and methods of empirical labour market research. Here the focus is on the general theories of statistics. At the beginning, some of the basic concepts required in order to produce statistics - such as data sources, measuring scales, values of the characteristics, statistical series, and distributions - are explained. The reader then receives information on how these data can be shown and presented in different types of diagramme. With the help of frequency distributions one can get an overview of the numerous individual pieces of data and calculate the averages and measures of dispersion. After the individual statistical characteristics have been explained, the reader receives an introduction into the analysis of a number of statistical characteristics as well as the way they hang together. Both the simple linear as well as the multiple linear regression calculation are explained using a practical example." (Text excerpt, IAB-Doku) ((en))
