Topics, Theories, and Results of the Newer Labour Market Research

Abstract

"The focus of my article is on the question how research problems have changed in the light of the development of unemployment in Germany, which have been the most important theoretical approaches, respectively, and how the questions for reasons of the development of employment and unemployment in Germany have been answered. In macroeconomic labour market research, the role of downward flexibility of wages as a means to terminating underemployment situations was the central theme. In the centre of microeconomic research, on the other hand, stood the controversy on why real wages are downwardly inflexible (cf. Franz 1986)." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku)
