Warum investieren deutsche Betriebe im Ausland?

Abstract

"Increasing foreign engagement leads to frequent announcements of German enterprises to move their production to foreign countries and to reduce their staff due to high wages and taxes. Scientific analysis of the amount, the reasons and the outcome of foreign direct investment are mostly based an aggregate statistical data. Using the IAB Establishment Panel this paper examines the motives of firms to invest in foreign countries. As a result of the query and as well of the multivariate analysis cost-saving motives are less important than market access motives for foreign direct investment. Therefore the majority of the firms which invest in foreign countries are expected not to reduce their staff." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
