German apprenticeship system and employment

Abstract

"Whether the transition into the employment system is successful or not depends on regional economic conditions and the occupation graduates have been trained for. In the states Berlin and Brandenburg transitions have proved to be less successful than in Germany on average. For graduates in craft occupations finding employment is often tedious and is largely accompanied by a change in occupation. In the services sector an ambiguous picture emerges: Generally, access to the employment system is easier and having to change occupation is less likely. Still, graduates of specific occupations in the services sector hardly earn enough to make a living." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
