The labour market 2009 - Handbook

Abstract

"In 2008 the German labour market showed a pronounced recovery. The number of employment contracts covered by social security had increased markedly. But is this positive development a clear change in trend or only a fleeting phenomenon? The answer can be found in the 'Handbuch Arbeitsmarkt 2009' (The Labour Market 2009 - Handbook) with its comprehensive review of the German labour market. This handbook sketches developments since 2003, analyses short- and long-term perspectives, and summarizes political measures linked to the labour market in detail and chronologically. Experts from the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) discuss the following questions, among others: <br> - Have active labour market policies in Germany had an effect? <br> - What impact has the eastward expansion of the European Union had on the labour market? <br> - What problems arise in connection with the integration of migrants into the labour market and the educational system? <br> - How is the dual system of occupational training developing? <br> In addition to this, the handbook offers a comprehensive - and partially internationally comparative - collection of data on central indicators of the German labour market such as growth, the employment situation, productivity, education and training."
