Further vocational training for older employees in SMEs
Abstract
"Although participation in further training has, overall, risen, these are still some types of firms and persons who exhibit 'training abstinence''. The former include mainly small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs); the latter are often individuals who am low skilled or old. Older workers in SMEs am exposed to two, 'risk factors'; these lead to exceptionally low levels of training participation. The article presents empirical evident on the incidence of further training amongst older employees in SMEs. It seeks to determine why older workers and the low skilled have participation rates in further training schemes that are below the average. Furthermore, measures, in particular those associated with the Federal Employment Office. to increase training participation are discussed." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
