Methods of empirical regional analysis
Abstract
"Empirical regional analysis is gaining in importance for, above all, three reasons. First, the rediscovery of the regional dimension in modern economics has contributed to this, as evidenced in the field new economic geography. Secondly, more and more data sets are available which allow the explicit analysis of the regional dimension. And, finally, the regionalisation of empirical studies has opened up new possibilities. The chapter describes some of the best-known approaches of empirical regional research. It starts with the gravitation model and then presents shift-share analysis. A further section is devoted to regional concentration and specialization measurements. Regional econometrics is then dealt with at the end of the chapter." (Text excerpt, IAB-Doku) ((en))
