Low-wage employment in the social professions
Abstract
"In the last one and a half years, the low wage sector in Germany has expanded noticeably. This article deals with the question to what extent members of the social occupations have been affected by this. Here it is a matter of an empirical stocktaking and of showing trends in developments since the end of the 1990s, and more precisely between 1998 and 2008. The article begins by sketching the general development of the low wage sector in Germany. The following sections then outline the data used and define the low wage sector and the social occupations. After that, the findings for the circle of persons in full-time employment are presented. As the extent of financial neediness of persons in employment is of course also of interest, the following chapters cover so-called topper-uppers ('Aufstocker') in particular professions (including part-time workers and 'mini-jobbers'). The article closes with a short resume of the most important findings." (author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
