IAB-Jahresbericht 2010
Abstract
"At the height of the recent economic crisis, even the greatest optimist among economists would not have dared to forecast that unemployment figures in Germany would drop below the three million-level in the course of 2010. An increase to over five million was even seen as a possible scenario. Today, however, it is perfectly clear that the German labour market - despite having been chided as being incrusted and inflexible just some years before - has mastered the economic crisis with bravado. Instead of mass unemployment, the catchphrase 'a shortage of skilled labour' is dominating the headlines. These rapid changes in the German labour market mean that research capacities at IAB also face considerable challenges. That we have accepted these is shown by the IAB annual report 2010: here the numerous different activities of the Institute undertaken during the year of the report are documented, together with their expression in a great many publications, events, and advisory services for scientific and professional circles. In addition to this, you will find a separate chapter containing a summary of a report in which IAB gives a comprehensive account of its implementation of the recommendations of the German Council of Science and Humanities which evaluated the Institute in 2007."
