Low-skilled work in crisis?

Abstract

"Employees in jobs that require no or only low skills (low-skilled work) are considered to be a problematic group of the labour market. Employing the IAB-Establishment Panel this study analyzes the development of low-skilled work and examines the Impact of the 2008/2009 global economic crisis. The results Show that the development of low-skilled work depends crucially an the economic rector. Further we apply difference-in-differences-estimators and find within those establishments affected by the economic crisis the number of employees in low-skilled work decreased by almost 10%. This contrasts to the decline of 3,3% in the number of persons who perform jobs which require vocational skills and qualifications." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
