School performance of children and family income poverty

Abstract

"As the data from the 2009 German Microcensus (Statistische Ämter des Bundes und der Länder (Statistical Offices of the Federal Government and the Federal States) 2010) show, every fifth child under 18 years of age is at risk of poverty. In other words, children constitute a group of the population that is above average affected by poverty. What makes this topic even more explosive is that the risk to children has been increasing constantly over the last few years as observations over this period illustrate (Grabka und Frick 2010; Hauser 1997)."
