Report of working group 1 "Regional Labour Markets - Economic structural policy" of the Commission "Requirements from the second Bavarian Social Report"
Abstract
"The report deals with a new review of the special characteristics of Bavaria and Bavarian politics in relation to important features of the labour market and the economy. The regional differences within Bavaria, which are not dealt with extensively in the Social Report, are brought especially to the forefront. This takes places on the basis of an econometric analysis of disparities in the development of employment in the Bavarian administrative districts and independent cities in which the influence of branches of the economy, size of establishment, qualification structures, and location components are examined. The study shows that the location component is significant for regional development and constitutes an important point of departure in the exertion of influence. In order to do this, the regional location factors require to be determined precisely and their effects identified. Differentiated local support concepts should then strengthen existing positive factors and break down constellations of conditions that have a negative effect. The potential for more employment in Bavaria lies in the dynamic area of business-related services, for which the strong industrial base provides a good foundation." (text excerpt, IAB-Doku) ((en))
