How working from home is reshaping Germany’s commuting and residential landscapes

Abstract

"The rise of remote working has been changing where people in Germany work and live, particularly since the Covid-19 pandemic. By making the daily commute in many cases unnecessary, working from home weakens the hitherto strong geographical connection between residence and the workplace. Our recent study focusses on two important questions: Are people now willing to live further from their place of work? And are they taking up jobs that are much further away?"
