Latest results from the IAB Establishment Panel: Economic weakness is leaving clear marks on the apprenticeship market

Abstract

"In 2025, both the number of newly concluded apprenticeship contracts and the supply of company-based apprenticeship places have declined. After the proportion of apprentices retained reached a record high of 79 percent in 2024, it fell last year. These changes also reflect the ongoing economic weakness in Germany. Recent analyses from the IAB Establishment Panel illustrate how various indicators of company-based training have developed and how they are performing across individual segments of the apprenticeship market."
