IAB's assessment of the Research Data Act (FDG). Statement by the IAB as part of the stakeholder consultation process of the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space on 15 January 2026

Abstract

"As part of the stakeholder consultation process of the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space on January 15, 2026, the IAB submitted a statement on the draft bill for a law on the improved use of data for research (FDG) – Research Data Act. The IAB welcomes the FDG with its aim of improving data access for research and expanding data linkages for research purposes, but suggests improvements regarding certain aspects and in the event of emerging contradictions or risks. Furthermore, an estimate of the anticipated costs at the IAB for data deliveries to the German Center for Microdata is provided." (Author's abstract, IAB-Doku) ((en))
